Surly’s Big Dummy is an investment in Every Day Adventure, what with its rock solid chro-moly construction, integrated disc brake caliper protection and integrated foot supports for a passenger. The top tube was gently curved to make it easier to get on and off your fully loaded two-wheeled steed. Furthermore, the Big Dummy will tolerate tires up to 2.5″ and 4 water bottle cages, for expedition style adventuring.

What’s the ride of a fully integrated Longtail like? Well, the difference between a FreeRadical and a Big Dummy can be most easily summed up like this: you may miss a little of the cushion, but you won’t miss any of the flex when loaded. The Big Dummy has been proven on trans-continental off-road touring expeditions, and here on the streets of Oakland. It’s a beast.

The 2011 Big Dummy DOES require significant assembly that may be more than you wish to take on. Assembly steps include: installation of fork and headset, installation of pedals (i.e. yours), installation of seat/seatpost, installation of Xtracycle LongTail Kit (not a big deal), installation of front wheel and knowledge of how to properly tighten a quick-release. We recommend that you have an experienced bicycle mechanic put your bike together. We are not responsible for damage caused by inadequate assembly. We are happy to ship it to your local bike shop.
