Hello, I commute during late spring until early fall but would like to become a year round commuter. I’m not sure what accessories I will absolutely need besides a waterproof jacket w/good ventilation and adequate lighting/reflectors.
What types of products do you carry for rain protection over your helmet? Price range? How do people keep their ears warm on very cold mornings when commuting?
Hello! It seems that every person has a different preference for winter cycling gear, but there are a few common themes. Fenders for the rain, rain jacket, and definitely rain pants. Some people like to wear waterproof shoes, while others like the waterproof shoe covers (the Showers Pass ones we carry cover any type of shoe and sell for $40), and some people like helmet covers (Jandd $18- $25 and Showers Pass) while others prefer a hat layer or balaclava (like wool or synthetic) under their helmet. Gloves are also a good idea for when it gets colder.
My personal list includes: fenders, rain jacket, rain pants, shoe covers, a wool hat, and gloves. This keeps me comfortable all winter.
Come in and we can help you look at all the options and figure out what will work best for you. Enjoy your commute!
